My new blog is called “Spritual Smile” but… What is a “Spiritual Smile”?

There is a moment when everything goes wrong. Like the song says, “When the dog bites, when the bee stings…” In that moment, nothing is perfect. Not even close. Nothing is going right. If you are lucky, you sit down and have a good cry. Or just let out a big, deep sigh. Suddenly, by the Grace of God, it all makes sense. You see your problem or issue in the grand scheme of things. Suddenly a little ray of light hits the top of your head. You see things in a slightly different way. You see the utter and shocking humanity of it all. you see that you are part of this huge wave of humanity, with all it’s farce and foibles. In that moment, you smile. In that moment, you have the same sweet smile that the Buddha had, as seen in countless statues. A brief, wispy smile, fleeting and Eternal. Humble and triumphant. Perfect in it’s imperfection. To me, this is the most sacred moment we can have. The more time we spend in these moments the more grace and light we experience in life. In other words, the more light we let in – and give out – the more “enlightened” we become. So, this little blog of mine will not be perfect. Not by a long shot. But I will take current events and all the slings and arrows of this mortal existence, and with these raw elements, find a smile. A Spiritual Smile. Sometimes it will be thought-provoking but no real harm is meant by anything I say. Sometimes feeling will come up, perhaps for a healing moment. Sometimes I may just be outright silly. It is okay to be both spiritual and laugh. Let’s do this, together! About once a week I will write a little something to share with you. A spiritual smile. Won’t you join me?
